It has been a while ...

Just wanted to say Hi :)

and

Some say it is a planet, others a Christmas decoration, I guess I wont reveal what it really, since you probably already know.

Date of Birth: 03/04/85

Tell us about you and your work:
I am a Russian artist originally born in Siberia, who lives and works in London. I am still hung up on the conceptual ... most recently I have been finding funny (an not) objects that I give names and a functions for example " A Langoustine damaged over a matter of apricots" - it is a branch that looks like a shrimp, really ....recently I m a lot into that.... very duchampian if you ask me.
Most of the work that I do is mainly documenting objects that are no longer being used or are serving their given purpose, but rather the objects that went beyond the initial function. You might call them mistakes, errors, black sheeps... I just think they are beautiful.
This transcendence is what still gives me a kick.
So, from documenting to creating...looks like we might be getting somewhere after all :P

What inspires you to create?
The everyday finding a branch on the pavement on the way to buy apricots

The boring - an advertisement screen that is blank

The ugly you might say... a man with a vititligo decease on a bus stop - sooo want to take his picture - I know you people will through stones at me but I think it is beautiful. Another obsession with ugliness (I find it dangerous grounds)

What would you like to achieve in the future
Be able to create and be able to create great work and the work that will allow me to live how I want.

How would you like to be represented as an artist
What do you mean how? How...hm.... true-fully

Are you willing take on commissioned projects
Yes

What price have you been selling your works at
from £150 - £1000 so far

Wednesday 13 July 2011

Find a pattern

When I am not traveling and got only my blackberry camera on hand, here is what gets documented:

I. Faceless - Violated posters on platforms

To the point of abstraction (Knightsbridge)
Violation of my own - Uniqlo Look-book:

II. Amorphous and Androgynous

III. Untitled

IV. Covered and Tied

Dodo, Moscow
Taken Over

East London

by unworkability
VI. Rotten

onion and lemon
And hairy

my bag
in most unexpected places - ground

VII. And of interesting shapes

One thing that all of these images have in common is that each one of them is self-transcendent meaning  'going beyond a prior form or state of oneself'. Subjects that have lost its initial function or have a tendency or possibility to be read as something they are not, only these subjects attract me immensely.
What is this obsession ....

The Coup Newsletter

The 2nd Coup - Presence of Absence has made it into last month's calendar on the 17 July 2011
This time it was a duo of two artist
Iulia Filipovscaia and Laura Napier

A paradox is - piece by co-curator Marina Doritis:

Presence of Absence | Opening F r iday 1 7 June

A paradox is [instantly] revealed when one links the title of the show,
Presence of Absence to the typically violent associated action, of a
coup d’etat. We assure you, there has been no bloodshed and the
two artists have been politely invited by the patron to enter and exhibit
their work. As it is becoming increasingly difficult for a new generation
of artists to gain exposure, alternative solutions are sought after.
The violence [for argument’s sake] negotiated tonight is towards the
inhabited space. An entity and a protagonist in it’s own right, that
carries a memory as well as a history. The ammunition arrives in the
form of photography, text, installation and site-specific sculpture in an
attempt for Iulia Filipovscaia and Laura Napier to proclaim their
presence.
A conceptual palindrome: a presence of absence as much as there is
absence of presence, an analysis very much investigated by Jacques
Derrida. Implicit to both is memory, which precedes and exceeds the
present moment, triggered at a time of absence. The exhibition urges
the viewer, to search beyond the obvious and mediate the gaps and
absences to their own imaginative advantage. The space has been
filled with signifiers and memories, some talk of death others of feelings,
others of unrealized plans and hidden narratives, in conclusion I wish to
quote: “NOTHING EXISTS OUTSIDE THE TEXT” – J. Derrida, 1988
If only violence could be interpreted as an ethereal and ephemeral
condition, the protagonist lingers within the absence and will return
tomorrow.
